Alois Kitzberger, CEO of UNTHA shredding technology, is happy about the acquisition: “We have grown a lot in recent years, and our Kuchl location is increasingly pushed to its limits in terms of capacity. By acquiring Aigner, we are able to push ahead with our expansion plans independent of local conditions.” However, that is just one aspect that led the company towards taking over its supply partner of many years. “Especially in the last two years, it has become increasingly obvious just how important it is for the success of a company to have a well-functioning supply chain. Long before the supply chain crisis as a result of the Covid pandemic, we began to source strategic components of our main important assemblies in Austria instead of in other countries. In fact, this is one of the reasons why UNTHA emerged from the crisis unscathed”, Alois Kitzberger explains. The numbers reflect this: With an increase in turnover of 70 million Euro in the past financial year, UNTHA was able to set a new record in its 50-year history.

A win-win situation

UNTHA and Aigner Stahlbau Verkehrstechnik have been business partners for many years. The Burgenland-based steel construction company was faced with the fact that there was no one in the family willing to take over the business. Proprietor Gerald Aigner therefore approached UNTHA and made an offer for a takeover. The business manufactures primarily machine components in large volumes and sends them to Kuchl for final assembly. “For me, the fact that the business in Pöttelsdorf would not only survive, but continue to grow, was the main reason for the purchase decision. As we had been working with UNTHA for many years, I could be 100 % sure that this would happen. Today, eight months after the takeover, it is clear that we made the right decision. A true win-win situation with handshake quality”, explains Gerald Aigner.

The company was founded in 1990, employs 45 people and processes around 1,500 tonnes of steel per year. The Pöttelsdorf site has an area of 10,000 m² at its disposal, as well as a new production hall measuring 4,000 m². In addition to manufacturing parts for UNTHA, Aigner continues to serve its other long-standing customers.
